The Scoop:
I started riding bikes after a series of Hockey and Lacrosse injuries and at the suggestion of one of my many doctors in 1985. I remember buying my first bike from a local shop owner- he had a working Campagnolia derailleur tattooed around the elbow of his right arm. I took to the sport right away, getting a job at Westport Bicycles in Ct and commuting via bike just as mountain bikes were being introduced. My first race was in 1988 and I managed to win the hill climb I was hooked but Cycling had been my way to train for my other sports with Ultimate Frisbee being my main source of bodily destruction. Traveling the US and Canada for years hoping Ultimate would gain Olympic status I soon saw the writing on the wall, so to speak, and jumped into Mountain bike racing fulltime. Once I learned of the National Circuit I started targeting roadtrips in my VW camper for races and catching anything local to feed the bug. It was when I moved south to North Carolina when I started to place well as an expert and decided to move west while working Tech. Support at races for Spinergy. While working in the Bike Industry I was able to race/ride a lot managing to place in the top 5 of 4 Nationals -it did not take long before I got booted from the expert class- I reached the podium in my first race as a pro but soon after found myself faced with Epstein Barr and the need for acl knee surgery (Thanks to Ultimate Frisbee, 18yrs of Hockey and 10yrs of Lacrosse. The years of recovery back east introduced me to long training rides, Independent Fabrication and the sweetest riding bikes being built.

Most of my riding is on rigid Singlespeeds and all of my riding is done on 29ers. The highlights of my singlespeed days culminate with a 2nd place at the 2006-7 24hr World Championships despite having one of my most uncomfortable races. I finished the '07 season with 6 solo 24hr races and 1 team placing.

These days I find myself training 4 or 5 days a week with rides of 4 hours or more mostly on the single 9er with my longer days spent on the lovely Ti9er that Matt designed and Tyler welded for me last season.-it's a treat/privilege knowing the person that welded your ride and having painters name your bike for you- only at IF!!!!

Currently my wife and I live in Santa Cruz California where I design/develop and build ADA(handicap) compliant homes http://www.eadsantacruz.com/ . Since moving west in 2000 we opened and ran the family Restaurant/Tea bar ( www.theatticsantacruz.com. ) before selling it summer of '07. . The '08 season will find me becoming a father and a stage racer as I endeavor to try a couple longer multi day events.
