This one time I was in a solo breakaway and I rode by some guy on the side of the road and gave him a high five going full speed

Favorite Race Moment: I think that the best moments in cycling are those which are completely unexpected and by far, the most unexpected moment in my cycling career came in stage 2 of the 2007 GMSR. After finishing 3rd in the opening prologue, I wasn’t expected to do very well in the flat circuit race given that I am a horrible sprinter. At the time, my teammates—including current teammate Jerome Townsend—were attempting to think of ways to reduce my eminent failure and try to salvage some points for the overall classification. The plan was for Jerome or Luke Keough to try to sprint for victory while I somehow managed to hold their wheel. In hindsight, the idea was incredibly stupid given that there was no way I would be able to keep up. Even my dad—who has probably supported me more than any other person—said that if I even finished in the points (which are given to the top 20 riders) it would be a victory. Obviously, nobody had high expectations—not even myself. Anyway, to make a long story short—I won.
The moral of the story: never listen to Jerome Townsend
